The Greater Series is a short-form video series from WEDU PBS exploring the captivating stories in our own backyards. Through intimate and immersive stories, the Greater Series celebrates the power of local community in a new way - with timely, impactful storytelling that highlights the best of our region and creates digital neighborhoods to keep us connected.
The first two seasons of Greater Sarasota shared the unique stories of the people behind local arts organizations, giving viewers a behind-the-scenes look into how they were forced to pivot in the pandemic and found themselves pushing ahead through hurricane-force obstacles. While bracing for all the blows, they also, unexpectedly, found a renewed sense of purpose – to heal. Arts have long held the power to connect us to each other and ourselves, but in this special moment, they also hold the power to heal. In these times when viewers are staying closer to home and exploring their home towns even more, local stories are more important than ever. A special thanks to our partnership with the Community Foundation of Sarasota County with generous funding from the Muriel O'Neil Fund, and by the Joy McCann Foundation, as their support brought the Greater Sarasota project to life.
As the series expands and explores other neighborhoods in the region, we are moving into Greater Ybor City to highlight the amazing food and culture of this historic Tampa neighborhood. From Cuban sandwiches to the infamous Ybor chickens, stay tuned for new installments of Greater Ybor City throughout the fall.
